In this game your character will one of the First, beings created or modified by the Masters to be their favored servants.
Because of this, character creation will be somewhat different from usual:
Starting Level: Level 4. Perhaps once you were significantly more experienced, but somehow lost part of that knowledge. You may have 'slept' for decades before awakening in a confused state, or were weakened by your Master's disappearence or some other accident and so on. Gaining levels might represents relearning and remembering part of your old knowledge.
Traits: You can have 3 traits. Background traits are allowed, though some will need a bit of work to justify.
Ability scores: You have 52(rather than 24)points at 1st level for purposes of generating ability scores. Your starting ability scores can be as high as 22 before traits. This replaces the +4/+2/+2 bonuses in the book, and should give you a bit more flexibility in case you want to create a jack-of-all trades. Remember that being level 4 will give you an extra 4 ability points, for a total of 56.
Hit Points: You have maximum Hit Points.
Feats and Masteries: Gain 2 bonus feats at 1st level and a +1 bonus to all masteries(including ones with -, contrary to what the book says).
Magic: Naturally talented with magic, all Firsts gain a +4 bonus on all pact checks.

The game might start in your Master's Keep/Citadel, and these are probably quite magic-rich areas...you should be able to loot something interesting in-game..
Still, it makes sense that a Master might create some magic items specifically for his First. You might be able to start with single magic item each, or the item might be stored somewhere inside the Keep if the Master for some reason didn't give it to you before he disappeared.
Actually, it might be good to start a thread specifically for magic items, with guidelines for what you could get and examples...
