The Ascaanite people of the Trader Cities follow a large pantheon of gods. Though most people in the Cities would worship many or all of the gods, a few cities trend towards monolatry – exclusive worship of one god, without denying the existence of others. A few of the most common gods are listed below.
Ba’al. Commonly regarded as the king of the gods. The lord of storms, lightning and the sky, conqueror of the sea. Also known as Hadad and El.
Astarte. Queen of the gods, lady of war, fertility and family. The chief wife of Ba’al.
Yamm. God of seas and rivers. Many island settlements like Tirkouane and the Duras worship Yamm exclusively. Formerly husband of Ba’al, now his rival.
Asherah. Goddess of love, desire and lust. Wife of Yamm. Seen in Mythrium as the personification of the river Mythis.
Anat. Virgin goddess of strife and war, estranged wife of Ba’al. The chief god of Salabitha.
Mot. The feared dual-spirit god of the dead, worshipped only by the mad.
Ashimis. The dual-spirit god of fate, augury, magic, and prophecy.
Molech. God of fire, wrath and war.
Ka-sha-lu. The clever and deft god of craftsmanship and literacy.
Dagon. The god of crop fertility and grain, father of Ba’al.
Ishara. Goddess of oaths and honour, mother of Ba’al.
Dumuzid. God of youth and beauty, also lord of shepherds. Former lover of Astarte.
Azizis and Arsu. The ascended deities of the morning and evening star, twin sister and brother.
