This is going to be my pbp friendly game that I'm planning, though I also have some ambitions to run it in OpenRPG at some point as well, but not in the same incarnation as the pbp game.
Long ago, in simpler times, when the many races of Mana lived in peace with each other, it is said that the gods decided to reward the mortal races. And so a great tree, towering over the land and brimming with the magical, life-giving energy known as Mana, was placed in the world. But the mortal races, rather than receiving the gift as it was meant, for all races, instead began to fight over the right to settle near the tree.
The noble Geddon, born from the rock and earth, vowed to protect the tree, stating that only they should be permitted near the tree.
The independent and nomadic Xiaoshin, born from the scorching heat of the southern desert, claimed the tree as their true homeland returned to them by the gods.
The secretive Meldin, born of the wind singing through the trees, claimed stewardship over the tree, as they were the most adapted to living among it.
The mercantile Raulu, born of the crashing wave and deep oceans, stated that the tree was for all the races, but that those races who lived close to it should pay those who lived further for the privilege.
The humans, ever expansive, sought out control of the tree to expand their dominion.
Thus, a great war was fought over the god's reward for peace. The gods realized that should any of the mortal races gain control of the tree, that race would be able to challenge the gods themselves, so, out of desperation, they sundered the world, placing each feature into magical objects called keystones. They planned to remake the world once they had consolidated their control over it and assert their dominion over it once again.
But there was one group of gods that did not agree with the others. Outcast for their support of the mortal races, these gods fled to a dark realm filled with shadows, and made plans to remake the world with the mortals in mind. Forming the Conclave, they forged the Chalice, a device that would allow a mortal to activate keystones, restoring parts of the world, piece by piece.
Armed now with the ability to wrest control of the fragile world from the power hungry gods, the Conclave needed mortals. Able to work without drawing the gods' attention, these mortals needed to be strong, but without the prejudice that brought about the war in the first place.
Looking into the spirit realm, the Conclave sought out the souls of fallen heroes of the past. Drawn back into the world, the Chosen, as they became known, had all the skills of their former life, but no memories of them, making them ideally suited to the restoration of the world untainted by preconceptions.
Now, standing in the Refuge, a group of Chosen meet with the representative of the Conclave, preparing to start their task.
The players would take the role of the Chosen, tasked with the reconstruction of the world. Here's an interesting twist on the whole thing... You get to build the world! Cities, dungeons, ruins, you get to choose where they go. You'll be given a map of the region, which will be sectioned off into a grid. Certain features will only be able to be placed on certain tiles (no caves in the sea for instance), but for the most part you'll be able to build the world as you want to. As you progress through the game, you'll find or be given keystone artifacts that hold a feature locked away. And to be nice, you'll be started out with two keystones off the bat.
The game will use GURPS, the characters based off of 200 points. The races will be posted in this thread as I complete them, as well as some additions. feel free to post interest or if you have a question.
