Erik smiled softly at his two cousins. "You two, stop plotting behind my back."he said jokingly. More seriously, he added "Pay attention and you might learn a thing or two."
Taking his practice sword and turning to Ser Boris, he bowed slightly, not wanting to have the knight wait too long. "Let's try not to hurt each other, hard to serve our lords with broken bones."he said as he assumed a fighting stance.
The duel started - the two circled warily for a few seconds, each looking for flaws in the other defense. Ser Boris was faster and struck Erik on the chest. Erik was only bruised however, and managed to land a solid blow on his opponent's right shoulder, impairing his swordsmanship.

Boris recovered quickly from the blow, and responded by lunging forward and striking Erik hard in the chest. They both moved back, and then simultaneously lunged forward; Boris struck Erik's leg and Erik struck Boris's shoulder. They parried a few blows from each other, before Erik got through one more leaping strike.
Boris dropped to one knees, wiping the sweat from his brow. "Well done ser. I think I will concede victory to you here."

Dray watched the fight with interest, surprised when Erik appeared to be holding his own and maybe even edging out Boris. I'd always heard Boris was an amazing fighter. Maybe he's at a disadvantage without his sword, he thought. He fished out the silver as the fight dragged on then passed it surreptitiously to his sister after Boris conceded. "Well fought cousin, Ser Boris. A most impressive display."

"You have quite a well kept secret here on Harpy Rock," said Boris. "I'd not heard much talk of warriors with such prowess. If there are more like Ser Erik, I'm not surprised the Brentons were defeated."
He stowed away the practice sword and rubbed at his bruised shoulder. "Shall we head back? I imagine we shall be wanted soon."

"We have been an isolated island here, left alone by most of the world. I expect you will be hearing many more stories from here in the future." Dray paused. "As Ser Erik's renown spreads of course."
"I agree, we should return. The festivities should be starting soon."

Erik, having helped the battered Boris to his feet, put his sword away. "Sorry for your shoulder, I'm sure you'll be fine in a couple of days Ser. You put up a most excellent fight." he said after a few seconds of catching his breath.
He looked somewhat concerned and, at the same time, proud of this victory. "Oh, no need to flatter me."he smiled, obviously amused at the notion of stories of his swordsmanship spreading around.
Turning to Drey, he added "I'm sure you could use some practice with a sword too, you never know when these pesky Brentons might try and attack us." Erik added, sounding somewhat more serious.
"But enough with swords, now it's a time for celebrations. Let's go back to the castle, shall we?"he suggested

Irma waved away Dray's coins. "It was just for fun anyway. Besides, I didn't even have to do anything to help coz along." Irma had watched the fight carefully, taking note of both of the fighters movements.
"You're right, we should be getting back, it would be a shame to miss out on the great food we'll no doubt have prepared." She agreed with the others, getting to her feet.
As they rode back, Irma rode alongside Erik for a stretch. "I was wondering if you might be able to give me a few lessons. Father allowed me a sword in case... in case someone tries to kidnap me again, but it would be more encouraging if I knew how to use it." She looked around a bit nervously, as though someone was going to jump out of the forest. "It doesn't have to be that much training, just enough to be able to defend myself is all."
