Ok, so four months are going to pass. Everyone gets 30 xp from the rping (that's more than you'd usually get but I feel nice right now).
Alys, if you like you can get a point in the Common Tongue with your xp since the Maester is helping you.
You can make four house fortune rolls at 3D+2B+3 (for the steward, plus house modifier), unless someone else is going to be acting steward. The first four people to roll in the die rolls thread will count (or the first to decide to increase a resource by 1 instead of rolling).
You've also got four house actions if you want to take them. You can discuss them here.
-----------
You receive news that Albar, heir to the Tharon throne, has lost his wife to a riding accident - she was pregnant with what would have been their first child. A couple months later you learn he is searching for a new wife. (I'll post info about the Tharons later, you can make knowledge checks about Albar, the king, etc if you want).
You slowly hear more about what is being called the Doom of Valyria. Apparently the fourteen great volcanoes around the city exploded, and the land was rent apart to create a series of islands in a Smoking Sea. The majority of the Valyrian nobility was killed, sparing only a tiny fraction who managed to escape and those who administered other provinces; many of those have now been overthrown by their people, and those few dragons outside of the city no longer have riders who can handle them. Only the Valyrians (House Targaryen and its subsidiaries) on Dragonstone seem to have been mostly spared. Many houses are sending men to the east to try to see if wealth or artifacts can be salvaged from the ruins, and to gather more information about the events and how they might affect westeros. It appears Ser Brynden Brenton is amongst them, against his father's wishes, as well as Alec Storm, son of Alfred Bulwer.
-----------
Ok any plans? If there is anything I didn't discuss here that your characters want to investigate, plan, etc. let me know.

Dray's expressed an interest in getting Boris to join Calderron, and Irma's got Boris in a very easy position to win him over to our side. Just checking to see if we should go through with it.
Also, if we do get Boris to join us, would that merrit a point of Glory?
Also, Irma would want to visit Alys and see how she was doing, maybe assist in her studies. Having dragged the girl from the shores of death (or the sea, whichever), she has an interest in seeing her recover.
As for use of XP, if Erik agrees to train Irma a little, I might consider boosting up Fighting a rank... or could bring up something else... I'll think on it.

Skyman was saying that since we're asking so fast it might come with a big penalty. He said we could send letters and the like to keep the relationship alive. Maybe we should make it a "complex intrigue" from the book? XP...exciting

You probably wouldn't get a point of glory for getting Ser Boris on your side unless there was something more that came along with that... but you reminded me, you should get a point of glory for finding Alys/managing to keep her with you. Valyrian survivors are valuable commodities. For Aagon's decline roll, it's been found that some of the structure of the castle is weakening due to the recent storms, and repairs have been required - defense reduced by 1 point. (I used the first five rolls of his since he accidentally rolled 1 extra die). Three more of you can roll if you like, or up to two of you can add a resource point where you like instead (you have to roll at least 1 month per 3). And remember to take a look at the resource management action!

Over the first month, Dray spent time studying with the steward and found he had a natural ability with it. I've invested three points, so from now on the roll is 4d6+3B+3 if you want to take it
I suggest we invest the glory into population and maybe switch our one remaining power into a population point. If we get population up to 21 (at 16 right now) we can up the house modifier to +4

I put the thirty experience points into Language giving Alys, Common Tongue 1 giving Alys the simple understanding which allows her to convey basic concepts through speech only.
The population expansion seems to be a nice idea.

Not sure what to do with my exp, considering fighting but that might be a bit...boring. Will think about it. As for population, I'm favor of increasing it too - assume our recent successes make some people emigrate to us or whatever.

Maybe the stories of the strange silver haired purple eyed maiden brought people hoping to prosper from the auspiciousness of her presence *nods* (Stolen from Chris' reply on MSN)

Davide and I are having a discussion about House Fortune rolls over Messenger, and we were wondering about bonus dice. Is it necessary to always take the highest dice, or can we pick whichever ones we'd like and swap them in for whichever of the regular dice we chose? For example, if someone rolled the following (presuming +0 for argument's sake):
5, 5, 3, 1, and bonus dice 6, 2, 2
Would you be able to swap the 3 and the 1 for the two 2s, and thereby get 14 (Blessing), or would we have to swap the 1 out for the 6 and thus get 19 (Curse)?
This is probably a bit rules-lawyery (edit: it's definitely rules-lawyery), but the section about dice in the book seems to support the selective picking method - on page 26 of the book it talks about adding up the best dice and summing up the dice you choose to keep, not necessarily adding up the highest dice.
************************
On to less rules-orientated matters. Ser Courtnay is interested in getting a spy, probably a merchant with reasons to travel between Two Tree Hall and the Harpy's Rock, to report back about matters in the Brenton lands. However, he's rubbish at actually dealing with such matters himself, having a Persuasion of 3 (until recently 2) and no bonus dice in Bargain, so it might be better if one of you others handles the actual negotiation. Courtnay is particularly interested in their impressions of Brenton military strength - especially as their best general is apparently gone to Valyria, now might be a time to bring the fight to the enemy!
Hmm, the Crown Prince's wife has died and is searching for a new bride...if only we had any young, unmarried, fertile, high born women around here...hey Irma, do you know anyone like that?

Heh, I like you're thinking...but on page 27 it says under bonus dice that we drop the low dice.
I was wondering though if we could spend a destiny point on the rolls...maybe have it apply as if we'd used it right at the start of the next storyline.
I believe we also need one more house fortune.

What, you want to marry Alys off to the Tharons? We can't be sure we can trust her fully yet...

Sorry I'm going to say you can't pick the best dice, or with lots of bonus it would be almost impossible to get a bad result, and other spots do say 'drop the lowest'.
Your influence has lowered by 2, your law by 1, while your pop has increased by 1.
A group of refugees from a famine-struck town on the mainland have fled to your isle, but some are getting into trouble and forcing more of the house's attention to be focused on managing domestic matters.
Tomorrow or sometime soon I'll add new threads, in the meantime give me any more info on your strategy with Boris/the Brenton spy and other actions you might be taking. I should be online for a while tomorrow.

How about my destiny point idea? Using a dp and then having it apply at the start of the next storyline.
